Solar Energy Smashed Records in 2024!

Thursday, March 13, 2025

In 2024, renewable energy set new records by adding 49 GW of new capacity in the U.S., according to a report from the American Clean Power Association (ACP). This represented 93% of the nation's total new installed capacity.

The report highlighted the rapid growth in clean power installations: it took over 20 years for the U.S. to install the first 100 GW of clean power, five years for the next 100 GW, and just three years for the most recent 100 GW.

The additional capacity marked a remarkable 33% increase over the previous record of 37 GW set in 2023, showcasing the industry's extraordinary momentum.

The fourth quarter of 2024 was the strongest on record for solar installations, with nearly 14 GW of utility-scale solar commissioned. Solar capacity surged quarter-over-quarter, with Q4 installations more than doubling the 6 GW installed in the prior quarter.
