Achieving Energy Independence in the U.S.

Thursday, February 20, 2025

Achieving energy independence in the U.S. involves eliminating reliance on imported energy, protecting critical infrastructure from physical and cyber threats, and shielding the power system from market volatility and political instability abroad. This goal requires creating more jobs in the power sector and related industries, such as manufacturing, and expanding the domestic energy supply chain to source critical materials and components locally.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is working towards energy independence and increased energy security by promoting the growth of renewable energy sources. If fully harnessed, the United States' abundant renewable energy resources could meet all projected energy demands by 2050. Even partially realizing this potential would lead to a significant increase in domestic manufacturing and job creation, as well as an unprecedented level of energy independence.

The future is looking bright!
